Gawler Show - Involving the Community

As a large part of the Gawler community, The Gawler A, H & F Society aims to incorporate as many of the service groups, local sport, and community organisations as possible. This is done through fundraising opportunities and volunteers that can earn financial rewards for their clubs and associations by distributing any profits back through donations into the area and the future of the Gawler Show– its youth

Without the wonderful support of the many community groups and volunteers  the Gawler Show each year, would not be able to meet the high standards of entertainment and family fun that we all have come to enjoy.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Gawler Show Office if you belong to a Community based group who are investigating fundraising opportunities.

The Gawler show also tries to assist a children's organisation each year by donating a limited number of free tickets. The Management Committee welcomes applications for consideration each year. Please fill in the form and return it to the Office for committee selection. All applications will be dealt with the highest degree of  confidentiality.

Sponsorship

Welcome to the Gawler Show - South Australia’s largest country Show, founded in 1856.

Managed by the Gawler Agricultural, Horticultural and Floricultural Society (Gawler AH&F Society), the Gawler Show marks 155 years in the community and last year were awarded the Gawler Community Event of the Year as part of the Australia Day celebrations.

The Gawler AH&F Society is a completely independent incorporated body run almost entirely by volunteers. Gawler Show is one of the town’s key events attracting tourists and visitors from all over the State. The Delfin Lend Lease World Cup Qualifying event in show jumping sees entrants from across Australia and is the premier event on the show jumping calendar.

With attendance of around 30,000 people (2010), the Gawler Show continues to grow and emerge as one of South Australia’s most successful events outside of the metropolitan area. With direct access to public transport via the Adelaide – Gawler Train line and future initiatives of a bus circuit and increased marketing opportunities this will quickly see the numbers rise, as word of mouth increases talking about our family friendly Gawler Show.

Volunteers

The Gawler Show is a great community event.  It has survived for 155 years mainly due to the efforts of Volunteers.  Some of our Volunteers are short term and only appear as the Show nears to assist in the office or on the grounds.  Others have had a life time involvement (Life Members) dedicating much time and effort over the years.  Which ever the case, it is sure that (with only one part time Secretary) the Show not only survives but flourishes with the time, effort and attention it receives from approx. 500 Volunteers on an annual basis.

Volunteers can be Conveners (organising a Section e.g. Cattle, Sheep, Wool, Home Brewed Beer, Produce, Needlework etc.), Stewards (assisting with Sections), Committee members (organising activities for the Show e.g. Trade, Catering, Entertainment, Youth Shak, Animal Hutch etc.), office staff, grounds personnel, community groups etc.  If you would like to become involved with the Gawler Show in any way please contact the Administration Manager. gawlershow@bigpond.com.  We look forward to working with you!
